Charquekan!

El Charquekan es un plato originario del departamento de Oruro. Consiste en carne (de res o de llama) desmenuzada y deshidratada, mediante su exposición al sol con sal, acompañada con queso fresco de vaca, patatas con cáscara, mote (granos de maíz) y llajwa (salsa picante boliviana) 

P is for... Potatoes

On our way to Pampa Aullagas today we stopped at a town called Huari.
Apart from being famous for making the well-known Bolivian beer Huari,
this town has some charm! We stopped by the market to get some coffee,
tea, breakfast... It was fun to wander around the market and see the
produce they had for sale. Did you know at least 30 to 40 different
varieties of potatoes are widely grown in Bolivia?

Bolivian Cuisine

We had some Bolivian food for lunch today. Kind of funny how
everything had a fried egg on top. Why not, right?

Valle de la Luna

Today, during lunch time we had a picnic and some video interviews at the Valle de la Luna. It was so incredible

and such a nice day. Lindsay is videotaping us to make a video of the venture project this summer here and it's been fun to do! 

In the afternoon, we had a meeting with the Food Security Project here in Bolivia, and we got some "mil hojas" cake from Toffee Bakery- it was amazing.

Lebanese Food, Downtown La Paz and getting around...

Today, was our first real day in La Paz. We went out for Lebanese food for lunch and walked around the downtown area. It was a wonderful day, the weather was great. I took the microbus in Bolivia for the first time ever! It was fun and we got to see another perspective of the city. Although, I was here in 2009, it is nice to be here again and see the city with a different perspective. I guess you notice more things the second time around.

Arrived in La Paz, Bolivia

Siembra Organica (my MBA team) has arrived in Bolivia! We are happy to be here and very excited. I'm traveling with my teammates Lindsay and Christie. I  can really feel the effects of the altitude, I had a very bad headache yesterday. La Paz is at nearly 12,000ft above sea level but its neighbor city, El Alto (where the aiport is located) sits at approximately 13,500ft! However, the drive from the airport down into the city is just breathtaking- we saw all the mountains surrounding the city, and it was at 6 am right as the sun was starting to rise. Stunning. It was great introduction to my home the next 3 weeks.
