Bienvenidos a El Salvador

I'm in El Salvador for 5 months. I've decided to start blogging again... about random things I see here. Feel free to comment!

It's exciting to be in Central America. I guess a lot of people might think that it's very similar to Mexico, but actually there are some subtle differences that make it interesting to explore, I'll be commenting on those on later posts. I love the volcanoes. Every morning when I wake up, I open my curtains and I see the San Salvador volcano. It's so nice! I also really like how it's so green here. I've heard that it's greener now because it's rainy season, but I still like it.

And, yes, it's been raining. Every day actually, hopefully one of these days will stop so I can hike one of the volcanoes around here.

Today it's Thanksgiving- All the staff went out to lunch, we had chinese food (default holiday food if you don't have a place to celebrate the holiday- this is me today). The people from the staff thought it was funny but we had a great lunch! and many spring rolls.....

Sunday.... San Bernardino

Today was a very fun day. I went with friends I met in DC from Paraguay to the Lake San Bernardino. It was a really nice day trip outside of Asuncion!

Traditional Paraguayan Food

What do people eat in Paraguay? I have found out a lot of the major food staples here- and tried as many as I can.

Chipa- you see these everywhere they are kind of sweet bread but harder and not as sweet. These are some pictures I took so you can see, this is traditional lunch food they even have them in combos.

Sopa Paraguaya- something like cornbread.

Chipá guazú- like sopa Paraguaya but more of a casserole than a bread

Empanadas- pastries filled with meat and eggs.

And a lot of meat...........

Señora vs. Señorita

So I found out why people keep calling me Señora.... I asked the accountant at the office if I actually look that old to be a Mrs. she said no. In Paraguay, calling young women Señora is a sign of respect (while in Mexico is certainly not so much...). So there we go, this is why, maybe I should stop feeling awkward, but it still feels weird, I do not feel like a 'Señora' by any means, at least not yet.
